Description
Included in a lot of toys dating from the late 1950’s through 1960’s these 3 items stand out as hand-crafted from copper sheet, brass rod, and rubber wheels.
There is no makers mark nor any way to date them other than the stylising of the caravan and the hoist. The provenance of the collection suggests circa 1950’s.
Scale is not an appropriate measure as the Trailer is oversize for either the Caravan or the hoist, while the Caravan is too wide in the wheel-base to fit on the hoist. The hoist is probably close to 1:43 scale (1:40?) but the others are somewhere between 1:18 and 1:32 although dis-proportionate for scale. The wheels are approx 35mm diameter solid rubber.
Measurements are approximately:
- Caravan 130mm long + drawbar of 30mm, 65mm tall at the centre ridge from bottom of tyre, and 75mm wide.
- Trailer is 153mm long + drawbar of 90mm, 60mm tall to the top of the side from bottom of tyre, and 93mm wide.
- Hoist is 120mm long, with 140mm of ramp, 65mm tall, 90mm wide at the base, 64mm wide platform & ramp.
All 3 are play-worn, and the original red hand-painting may have been done with a house-brush. I am sure they were well-loved and will make a great addition to your collection of unique motoring toys. Available only as a group as they should be kept together.
